Since Android 4.0, it is quite easy to take a screenshot on Android. Most of the time, this works by simply pressing the power button and the volume down button at the same time. But sometimes things turn out differently. We show you how you can create a screenshot on different Android smartphones.

How to take a screenshot on Android
Since the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, the screenshot process has become standardized. Most of the time it works like this:
- Volume down button + power button
You have to press the power button and the volume down button at the same time for a few seconds and wait for the corresponding animation and sound for recording. The screenshot you just created can be found in the gallery or internal memory under Pictures/Screenshots or DCIM/Screenshots.

Take screenshot on Samsung smartphones
With newer Galaxy smartphones like the Galaxy S20 and Note 20, create your screenshots as described above. There is no longer a physical home button here. However, with older models, a different key combination leads to the goal:
- Home button + power button
However, with newer models, there is another way to take a screenshot: with a gesture.
- To go settings
- choose movements and gestures
- Activate the option below Screenshot
You can now slide the edge of your hand from right to left across the screen to take a screenshot. This does not work when the on-screen keyboard is active.

Samsung Galaxy Note and the S Pen
If you have a Galaxy Note with an S-Pen, you can also take screenshots with it. Samsung offers you several options. Open the S-Pen command menu and select:
- smart selection: You can use the S-Pen to select the desired area of the screen and take a screenshot of it. It can be used in notes and can be found in the corresponding folder.
- screenshot note: The entire screen is captured and you can use different colors to mark.
- S-Pen button: You can press the S-Pen on the screen and press the S-Pen button at the same time to take a screenshot.
Take screenshot on Google Pixel
Google’s Pixel phones run Stock Android, the purest version of the operating system. With these smartphones you can take a screenshot as follows:
- press the start button and the power button simultaneously
- hold the power button Press and select the option displayed on the screen to take a screenshot.

Take screenshot on Xiaomi smartphones
If you’re using a Xiaomi smartphone, you have three different options for creating screenshots:
- You can use the traditional key combination power button Y volume down button use
- Choose the option Screenshot in the notification bar
- Swipe down on the screen with three fingers at the same time.

Take screenshot on LG smartphones
LG uses the classic key combination, but on older models, the operation becomes a bit more complicated due to the position of the keys. Alternatively, you can also use QMemo+/Capture+.
On devices like LG G8, LG G7, LG V30, V30s and V40 ThinQ, the buttons are placed to make the combo easier to use.

Take screenshot on HTC smartphones
There are no surprises at HTC. You can also use the standard key combination here. However, you can also use the power button and home button combination, if available.
On newer models without a home button, only the key combination is skipped power button Y volume down button.

Take a screenshot on Huawei and Honor smartphones
On Huawei and Honor smartphones, you have several options to take a screenshot:
- Use the default keyboard shortcut volume down button Y power button.
- Use the screenshot shortcut in the notification bar.
- Activate gesture controls, then double-tap the screen to take a screenshot.

Take a screenshot on OnePlus smartphones
You can take a screenshot on a OnePlus smartphone as follows:
- Press at the same time volume down button and the Power button
- For older models, select the appropriate option from the menu that appears after pressing the power button. You may need to turn this on in settings beforehand
- Swipe down on the screen with three fingers to take a screenshot

Take screenshot on Nokia smartphones
You also have several options with Nokia:
- Press at the same time volume down button and the power switch
- Press and hold the power button and select the appropriate function.
- Select the screenshot option in the notification bar. This is not available on all models.

Take screenshot on Sony smartphones
The Japanese manufacturer chooses the standard form. Press at the same time volume down button and the power button and take a screenshot.
This is how screenshots of the entire window content are created
With some smartphones, you can also take screenshots of the entire contents of the window, even if it contains more than what is displayed on the screen. These so-called scrollshots are particularly useful for long texts and websites. The software will take a screenshot and then scroll down to take another.

This is how you create a screenshot video
Some Sony models allow you to record screen content as a video. Just hold down the power button to access this. The recordings end up in MP4 format in /Movies/ScreenRecords.

Huawei allows you to create a screenshot video with the knuckle gesture. With the Mate 20 Pro, you simply double-tap the screen to record a video.

If your smartphone doesn’t offer this feature, you can download AZ Screen Recorder from Play Store. You can make comments using the microphone of your smartphone.
Where to find the captured screenshots
As soon as you have taken a screenshot, you will find it in the photo gallery. There is a special folder called Screenshots.
